Dr. Susan Spicer is an expert clinical psychologist licensed in three states. She specializes in forensic neuropsychology, EMDR, clinical hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy, and research focused on many areas of brain structure and brain functioning. She has spent decades studying the manner in which brainwave patterns impact our thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and she has extensive experience helping individuals achieve peak performance by optimizing their brain functioning. Dr. Spicer provides therapy and coaching online to patients in Michigan, Florida, and California. She conducts neuropsychological assessments of children, teens, and adults with many diverse diagnoses including cognitive disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, and brain injuries. She conducts forensic evaluations in legal cases involving child abuse, divorce, and criminal matters, and has provided expert testimony in Courts throughout Florida and Michigan. Dr. Spicer earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University with a specialty in neuropsychology. She received a Master of Arts degree from Vermont College of Norwich University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan University. She is a Certified Brain Health Coach through the Amen Clinics. She has been trained in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and she has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Her professional background includes 12 years of clinical experience in the Michigan Court system, Community Mental Health facilities, and shelters for battered women and children. She is a former team member of the Epilepsy Unit of the Department of Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. In this position, she conducted pediatric neuropsychological evaluations for children with a wide range of neurological disorders including epilepsy, autism, meningitis, and chromosomal abnormalities. She has worked in private practices in Florida and Michigan specializing in forensic neuropsychology.
Dr. Spicer is a published researcher in many areas of brain functioning. She published a book chapter on brain hemispheric functioning and lateralization, and is a contributing author to the Encyclopedia of Neuropsychological Disorders. She has lectured internationally on topics related to cognitive development of right hemisphere brain functioning. She continues to participate in research on frontal lobe functioning of brain injured individuals and other topics related to brain functioning and binaural beat technology.
