Therapy For Anxiety

Anxiety can make day to day living feel like a tremendous struggle. Situations that others find to be easy and effortless, may cause you intense worry, agitation, and even emotional paralysis. It may be that you are genetically predisposed to anxiety, having inherited a biological tendency to worry from your parents or grandparents. It may be that life circumstances beyond your control have caused you to suffer from worry, fear, and racing thoughts that are disproportionate to the circumstances, and these may cause you to feel out of control. It may even be a combination of these and other factors. Regardless of the cause, there are simple, effective techniques to reduce your anxiety, to increase your feelings of self-control, to assist you in managing day to day struggles, and to help you successfully handle challenging situations with ease and confidence.

As a licensed psychologist, I utilize one of the most powerful tools of my profession – that is, my ability to teach you how to use the immense capacity of your mind to change the way you respond to life events. I have specialized training in neuropsychology, EMDR, CBT, and clinical hypnosis that allows me to deeply and effectively help people with anxiety. I utilize meditation, guided imagery, and visualization to assist you in reducing your symptoms and gaining control of your anxiety. I help clients gain important self-empowerment tools to learn to work with their inner experiences and symptoms to reduce their suffering. Some individuals are helped by a combination of therapy and medication to help support them through a difficult life circumstance.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that has proven to be extremely effective in helping my clients reduce or eliminate their anxiety symptoms. The underlying concept behind CBT is that our thoughts influence our feelings and our behavior. By identifying and modifying our core beliefs and our daily thoughts, we can change the way we feel and the way we respond to life events. CBT can help identify the psychological triggers that contribute to your anxiety and assist you in re-framing life events. CBT effectively teaches clients that while they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can control how they interpret and respond to life events. This leads to a feeling of control and a reduction in anxiety. Many clients discover that a combination of CBT and medication are enough to successfully manage anxiety symptoms.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is a mental training practice that involves focusing your mind on your experiences (such as your own emotions, thoughts, and sensations) in the present moment. It is unique in that it is not focused on getting you to be different from how you already are. Instead, it helps you become aware of what is already true moment by moment. It teaches you how to be unconditionally present, and helps you be mindful of whatever is happening in the current moment. Through this practice, you identify destructive emotions and feelings and then work through them. With the skills you learn in mindfulness training, we will examine what’s happening in your life and your relationships. We will also examine the effectiveness of your current anxiety coping mechanisms and determine if there may be better ways to cope. Brainwave audios I created through Brainwave Technologies can be incorporated into this practice to assist you in achieving a deep level of relaxation, and increase the effectiveness of your mindfulness meditation.
